#1: I wanted to share with you some picture from yesterday afternoon, when I had the opportunity to spend some time with a group of people who were clearing tree trunks and branches from one of our local woods using Percheron horses, and a couple of donkeys.
In most cases, this type of work is done using heavy vehicles such as tractors which leave huge grooves on the forest floor and demolish most things in their path. Horses cause no damage and can get into places that vehicles can't, plus the sight of them at work is enough to take your breath away:
Of course, the Percherons are incredibly powerful and handsome, but the donkeys were working just as hard!
By mid-afternoon, the pile of wood was already quite impressive!
It was a beautiful, sunny spring day, and a real treat for all those who were there!
Wow....what beautiful powerful horse!!! Love to watch animals work...you are right, it is breathtaking! :)
ReplyDeleteChan , how many legs do you have?
ReplyDeletePercherons are impressive allways!
ViVi & AB
We have a draft horse farm near us. They are such pretty creatures.
ReplyDeleteSlobbers,
Mango
We really love your neck of the woods! So close to nature! That must have been so impressive to see! And so much better for the forest than heavy vehicles... Your pictures show the strength those horses have. Great!
ReplyDeleteAnd Tama-Chan, we would love to lay next to you in that sunny spot.
Purrs, Siena & Chilli
What pretty horses! They seem very strong...I'm glad they are doing the work and not us!
ReplyDeleteThose horses are beautiful! And great workers too!
ReplyDeleteTama-Chan...we're glad #1 included a picture of you today too! You look very relaxed there!
Furry khool!
ReplyDeleteTank woo fur sharing!
BTW, I think Mango is about as large as one of them, eh?
Hugz&Khysses,
Khyra
That must have been quite a sight. I can only imagine!
ReplyDeleteThe horses are magnificent! A working horse is a happy horse, too!
ReplyDeleteI loved seeing those big, beautiful horsies!
ReplyDeleteThose horses are beautiful. It's wonderful to see an older way of life being far superior to modern technology!
ReplyDeleteYour pals,
Petey and Mica
P.S. Watch out Tom, Tama and Sir - next thing you know, #1 will be bringing a Percheron foal home "for a visit."
Gorgeous pix of the Percherons--I love the big draft horses!
ReplyDeleteTama-Chan sure can drape over a long space!
All the animals where you live are all so gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI have to remember to show these pictures to Grampie. That is how he used to pull logs from the forest when he was young. Using horses, not big tractors. Love the forsythia pictures too. Yay for spring.
ReplyDeleteTama-chan, you look so relaxed, you're almost melting off the sofa...sweet! #1, thank you for sharing the pictures of the horses at work! There's a whole movement for "sustainable forestry" here and one of my friends apprenticed with a forester for a winter and was given two mares (in foal!) in payment for his work. They are such beautiful and strong animals, who love to work.
ReplyDeleteWhat WE want to know about these horses is if we can chase them or not?
ReplyDeleteYou look beautiful, Tama-chan!
Purrs,
Abby & Styggie
