Family Farewell Friday

#1 here. Today, I want to pay homage not to one of the Poupounette Gang but to a very dear friend and extended family member who crossed the Rainbow Bridge yesterday. Some of you who have been following us for a long time may remember Tommy's little niece, EMILY. She was the runt of her litter and, at her heaviest, she weighed less than half of what Tommy did. But she was so full of life and joy and absolutely adored by all who knew her. Very sadly, she ingested some rat poison left out by a neighbouring farmer late last year and became very ill. She also already had a heart condition. Ms.A and Mr. R fought and fought and fought, as did Emily herself, but her body finally gave up and she suffered multiple organ failure. She was 10 years old. She has joined her adored uncle Tommy as well as her grandmama Minnie, great-aunt Cora, great-grandmama Katie, grandpapa Joe, as well as her other uncles Monty and Scooby. There will be quite a party at the Bridge!

A very typical Emily pose. Her ears were huge compared to her tiny body!

So Emily did flying ears like no one else!

Most of all, she loved to snuggle with Tommy:

We send our condolences to Emily's mama, Sophie, her aunts Lydia and Elsie, and of course to Ms.A and Mr.R.

  1. our tears are running for Emily... we are so sad that she had to die this way. that is so unfair! our community infested the whole village with rat poison because the mayor is an idiot and too stingy to use gas for the canalisation ... even after months we found rat poison everywhere...but as angry as all people were, they elected this moron again...sigh...

  4. I am so sorry to hear about sweet little Emily and send my condolences to her family.
Rats must be controlled, but the poison must ALWAYS be kept under cover where no other animals can access it. We always put it well back under pallets which are under hay bales where only rats and mice can go, but have seen other farms where it is left in the open with just a flimsy cover over it. Emily's death is so sad and unnecessary.

  7. Emily was a little sweetheart. We are so sorry for her loss. Mom had a little cockapoo once who got into some rat poisoning that the former owners of the house had hidden in the garage. It was over a year with a lot of treatment with steroids and Vitamin K before little Shamrock was healed. Soft woos and gentle hugs to the family.
