One of the guys we met, on Monday afternoon, will strike a cord in the heart of many of our American friends. Mr. Robert Detweiler was, for 11 years, the guy who looked after and drove the world-famous Budweiser eight-horse hitch of Clydesdales! He is originally from Iowa and is now back in his home state, breeding his own Percherons and Shires, as well as looking after some other people's horses. The thing is that Mr. RD just LOVES pussycats. They are everywhere on his farm, and they are clearly hugely appreciated by their human because they in turn love all humans. As soon as you get there, they get into meet and greet mode and demand to be held and petted!
As the giant horses are shown, they lounge about at their feet!
As a bonus photo, here is a magnificent stallion who comes from Atlantic Canada. Mr. RD found him in a field in New Brunswick and snapped him up! His names is Prince, aka "The Beast!"
It was so wonderful to see the giant horse guy totally in love with his pussycats as well as his horses!
I think I am in love with Prince! He is soooo handsome. And yes, a horse man who loves cats is a special person indeed!
ReplyDeleteUh-oh, what are the kitties at home going to think if they smell strange cats when you get back? They may think you have been up to no good!
ReplyDeleteThose kitties are brave to hang out so close to that horse's big feet! The horse is very beautiful though and must be a nice boy.
ReplyDeleteYour friends,
Niamh & Ambrose

Even in tiny photos on my computer, the beauty and power of those horses comes through. That is cool that the cats just lay about the field. I know a horse would not intentionally step on a cat, but I guess these guys are more careful with their feet than I would have expected.

Those cats are really comfortable around the horse. That must have been great to see!
ReplyDeletePrince is a magnificent horse! We have horses as next-door neighbours, but they are not nearly so big. Those kitties do not seem to be afraid of Prince at all and seem comfortable around him. Nice pictures.
