Wild Woofie Wedesday!

Ollie: Woofs, Everyone! Ollie here! Just in case you were wondering, the "wild" in the title does not refer to me, but to our garden! Let me show you!

Having done No Mow May, we are now sliding into "Minimal Mow Summer"! The garden is full of bees and butterflies and countless other critters and we like it that way!

The other day, #1 found a treasure, a wild orchid called a Lizard Orchid, which is apparently a protected species! It is really beautiful! She says it's our No Mow May gift from the garden!

And when it rains, as it has been doing quite a bit lately, we get quite a few of these guys in the garden!

I shall close off with this shot of a happy bee in our Lavatera!

  2. We've enjoyed No Mow May, and continue to minimize any use of the smelly, noisy, polluting old lawnmower.

  4. How cool to find such a beautiful flower popping up in your yard. Now you won't be able to mow for a long time since it's a protected plant. BOL!

  5. Good reason not to mow. Part of mum's flower garden is a bit wild! Don't eat your S-Car-Go!

  6. Buzzy Bees do love flower diving for sure and your meadow looks fantastic. we love things wild. that is a beautiful flower. We have had no mow for months now because of the drought, the weeds get tall but if Bob mows the sand and dust is killer. even with our 4 day rain bursts we are back to no rain for the past 5 days.. enjoy your wild beauty

  8. We here would love to do that no mow thing, too...but...well if the lawn/yard is more than 6 inches tall the township will issue a ticket...and if we still do not comply we would have it mowed and then they would send us the bill along with a fine...and you know, we live in a rural area...sheesh! We hand pull our weeds and invasive species, and now we have lots of violas, wild columbines, jack in the pulpits and a few others we don't know of their names...

  9. With all the rain we have had, our lawn has been looking like that a lot lately. That Lizard Orchid is beautiful. Make sure the squirrels and rabbits don't get it like they did some of our flowers.

  10. Lulu: "If only we could let our yard grow wild, too! But we would get a nastygram from the homeowner's association within a week or two!"

  11. I think that when the garden is allowed to go wild, the best things happen!
