It's me again! GEN-CHAN!!!!! It's great to have an official name! But are you wondering about the title for this post? And about what my name actually means? Let me explain. GENJI was the main character in what is thought to be the first novel ever, "The Tale of Genji" which was written a thousand years ago by Murasaki Shikibu, a lady at the court of Emperor Ichijo in Japan. Genji was so handsome and intelligent that he was called The Shining Prince ("Hikaru Genji"). I know I have a lot to live up to, but I really like my name! Oh, and by the way, my pedigree full name is "Genji des Rêves d'Aton."
I will show you photos of my parents and siblings another day. Let me just tell you that my Mama is called "Bastet" and I have one brother and one sister. My brother is a fawn abyssinian and my sister is blue, just like me.
So, about my colour.... The blue is a dilute colour within the Abyssinian breed. #1 says the closest comparisons she can think of are either to the colour of a Weimaraner or that of a silver fox. One description of the coat says that in the four layers of ticking typical of an Abyssinian cat, the Blue has two layers of strong blue-grey and two of different shades of cream. The cream in fact can verge on the very pale pink. As for my pawpads, you will have to wait until I stay still long enough for #1 to take a proper close-up. She says they are very, very special!!!
In the meantime, I think the best thing is to do a show and tell, so here are some photos of me:
Next to me in this next one is my favourite feather toy, which I brought with me from my birth home.
In this one, you can see the cream-colour on my underside:
I love to sit against #1's feet!
When #1 is in the room with me, I spend my time playing and cuddling, but when she leaves, I get lonely and hide. She tells me I will soon meet my big brother (I didn't even know I had one). I am a little nervous, so please cross your paws for me!
