#1 here. Today is Remembrance Day (and a holiday in France). We are thankful for all the people who fought so bravely in wars, but also to all the animals who lost their lives helping us. Several years ago, I was honoured to be asked by the British Percheron Horse Society to represent it at the opening of a memorial built in France by the Australian War Animal Memorial Organisation to remember. It was a deeply touching ceremony. Aside from the Australians, there were also representatives from the British and American armies present too.
And Vidock has also taken part several times in parades to commemorate the role of horses in the Great War.
Lest We Forget.
what a wonderful post... we will think about all today who helped us out...
ReplyDeleteWe are thankful for all the people and especially the animals that served in the wars so that we would have our todays and tomorrows.

Today we honor and remember the people and animals that have served in the military around the world.
ReplyDeleteLet none of us and the generations after us, never ever forget.
ReplyDeleteThat is a beautiful memorial to the animals who lost their lives. I am so glad we were able to see Vidock in the re-enactment.
ReplyDeleteSuch a wonderful tribute to all of our heroes and it's special to honor the horses and other animals too.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful event! Heroes don’t have just 2 legs…many have 4!
ReplyDeleteNot only do we have our human service members to thank, but also the four-legged (and winged) ones too.
