First, The Chans and Tommy would like to make a special announcement. They have been following the campaign for CAT RULER OF THE WORLD. This is a really hard one as so many of our friends are finalists, but we have decided to endorse our good friend SPARKLE for this. Why? Well, there is no doubtless something of the old Abyssinian-Somali "thang" at work, but there is another reason: we are great fans of TABBY'S PLACE, an amazing shelter that takes in cats who have nowhere else to go. We are always awed by their work, and it is the shelter that Sparkle has chosen to campaign for. You can find their blog here.
#1 here now, hijacking the blog from New Brunswick in Canada! I am in Fredericton to attend the Draft Horse Show at the Fredericton Exhibition, and wanted to share some of that with you.
Let me start, however, with the trip which took me over the Confederation Bridge, the longest bridge over tidal icy waters in the world at 12.9km (8 miles):
And I loved the sign just as I arrived in New Brunswick:
So, back to big horses! Like all big Draft Horse Shows, this one features Clydesdales and Belgians as well as Percherons, but no prizes for guessing who I came to see!
A lot of work goes into getting horses ready for the showring!
The elegance of the single cart:
It's always nice to see a few greys in the sea of black Pecherons! These guys are from Blue Haze Percherons, in New Brunswick:
The six-horse hitches are always so impressive! The winner this time was Jeff and Mona Fiske's Thunder Hill Percherons, from Kentville, Nova Scotia!
These guys trot around the ring at such a clip that many of the photos come out just like this:
Today will see lots more events, with all the Percheron line classes (in-hand presentations), and several more driving classes in the afternoon!
Watch out for MOOSE!
