Missing Her Monday - Goodbye Sei-Chan

#1 here. As many of you know by now, our sweet Sei-Chan was hospitalised yesterday morning following a sharp decline in her health. Yesterday morning, she would not eat ad she felt cold to the touch, which really worried me. The vet we go to, and trust absolutely, is now part of a weekend on-call rotation so I had no idea whom I would get when I called yesterday. Amazingly, it was our very own Dr. C, who said to bring her in immediately. It took me less than 10 minutes to bundle her and Tommy into the car and we were on our way. It's a 45 minute drive and Dr. C was waiting for us when we arrived.

Dr. C quickly confirmed that she was showing the signs of rapidly deteriorating renal function, and was hypothermic, with her body temperature at only 35°C (99°F the normal is 38-39°C). She said the first priority was to get her temperature up and also to put her on a drip to rehydrate her. Dr. C called #1 three times over the afternoon and evening to give news. The blood test results were not good on the renal side, and also showed impaired pancreatic function, probably due to an infection. The prognosis was and remains very guarded. Our little girl is fighting hard but we don't know at this stage if she is going to make it and come back to us for another round. She is in the best hands possible and I have given Dr. C, who is a personal friend as well as our vet, the OK to do whatever needs to be done, including the unbearable. Sei-Chan will not be allowed to suffer needlessly.

Her body temperature dropped to 33°C yesterday before starting to climb again. She has a heating pad, has had antibiotics and is on a drip. I am waiting for news of her this morning and plan to go and visit her late morning. I must go to England tomorrow, so she will remain in Dr. C's care during that time. If Sei-Chan makes it through the crisis period, we will have a clearer idea of whether a comeback is possible or not by the time I get back on Friday.

MONDAY MORNING UPDATE: The post above was written last night. I am sorry to let you know that my sweet little Se-Chan lost her battle this morning. Despite everything that Christina, my vet and dear friend, did, she was not able to come back from this very sudden crisis. She started her journey to Rainbow Bridge nestled in my arms. I will take a short break of a few days on the blog, and we will return on Saturday for Sei-Chan's very last SEIturday post. Please join us then.
