Thankful Thursday

Rufus and Reece: We know we are not full-time members of the Poupounette Gang but we do feel that we belong with the Gang, and wanted to express our thankfulness at this. You see, not a lot of people care about us squirrels. As red squirrels, we're more popular in France than our much-maligned grey brothers in England or across the big waters, but not many people take the trouble to actually look after us.

So thanks for the walnuts, hazelnuts, sunflower seeds and even occasional pears or apples!

Here's a rare picture of the two of us (we tend to fight if we're at the feeder together...)

And thanks for being our friends!

  3. it is soo nice to see a NICE post about squirrels for a change! I LOVE THEM! I used to feed a family of red squirrels that lived in our ROOF here in Michigan. That is, until our apartment/condo complex made me stop feeding them :(

  4. Red squirrels are getting rarer in the UK as the grey ones are taking over. There are still quite a lot though in Bradgate Park which is near to our home.

  6. Lovely to see the squirrels - reds are rarer these days. Dare we hope for some baby squirrels one day soon?

  7. You are much cuter than ours with those fabulous ears! Although we do love our squirrels here at the Swamp! It's the raccoon that I'm not nuts about. Nuts. Get it? hahaha!

  8. You are beautiful with your reddish coloration!

Our head peep once hand-raised an orphaned gray squirrel. Her cats at the time were sure it was just being prepared for their future dinner, but he was eventually released by a volunteer to a safe location. So we have a soft spot for squirrels... and not just because they are a favorite visitor to our Bird TV!

  12. We love squirrel TV over here! My human does not see the fox squirrels here often enough to know where to put out food for them - but we certainly watch them often!

  14. We only have grey squirrels here and they come and eat the peanuts from the bird feeders. I chatter at them when they do that.

  15. Once in a while we will see a red squirrel on our walks, but we have very few squirrels around our house. The trees aren't big enough to entice them to come there. You are very kind to treat them so well.
