#1 here. This is the month when we think back on the loss of our Sen-Chan whose full name was "Sengikumaru." In January of 2009, we lost the founding pussycat of the Poupounette, the original "Poupounet", Sen-Chan. He died of FeLV at the age of 18 months. I had gone to a breeder after losing Ikkyu, my first cat, in the summer of 2007. This kitten climbed up my arm and snuggled under my neck. He was a mess with a bad cold and gunky eyes, but he seemed so desperate to come home with me that he did, a few days later. I immediately took him to the vet and we started him on treatment. He got better very slowly. He was an absolute sweetheart and when Tommy came along, just a little while later, he welcomed him with open paws.
Sen-Chan, just after he came home:
He simply adored his bunny:
And his brother Tommy:
Sen-Chan also had the cutest pink pawpads ever:
We celebrated his first birthday on July 9, 2008. It was to be his only birthday:
Sen-Chan was sick a lot with respiratory and eye infections, but he never let that stop him. He loved to go outside to play with Tommy and "Auntie" Madrac, TOWCB Fernant:
Sen-Chan, with help from Tommy, started blogging at the end of 2008. He remains the guiding spirit for The Poupounette.
On January 2, 2009, whilst I was away in England for my nephew's wedding, he became gravely ill and was taken by my house-sitters to the vet where he died very quickly in Dr. C's arms. A test showed he had FeLV. His breeder did not believe in a proper vaccination protocol for his cats. Sen-Chan paid the price. He was buried in the garden here, along with his favourite bunny.
We know you are waiting for all of us at the Bridge, sweet "Poupounet", and we think of you often, running free in green grass, under the sunshine...
Sen-Chan - Forever Loved
Such a lovely remembrance of a sweet kitty.
ReplyDeletePurrs and hugs to you today.

I am so sorry you lost this wonderful boy at such a young age. The breeders here in the States (the real breeders, not the kitten mills or wannabes) are generally much more strict about vaccinations and such. I think it has to do with some of the rules and regulations in many of the areas here. Since I've come into my human's life, she has learned a lot about cat breeders behind the scenes. It has been an interesting education.
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful words for a lovely and loving boy.
ReplyDeleteCleaned out my tear ducts for today:)

A beautiful account of such a short & well-loved Life. Thank you for sharing it, #1! LSBnWNC
ReplyDeleteHow sad that Sen-Chan died at such a young age - his breeder was sorely lacking in his/her care to not look after him properly.
ReplyDeleteLuv Hannah and Lucy xx xx
He was adorable, I am sorry you lost him so young.
ReplyDeleteSuch a lovely tribute to Sen-Chan.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful and obviously loving boy. I'm so sorry you lost him so young. This was a lovely tribute, a bit bittersweet. I'm smiling while I wipe a tear away. Much love and purrs.

What a heartfelt and moving tribute to a very special boy. He was the forerunner ; The Poupounette is his legacy. In that short time he had on this earth he enjoyed a lifetime of love. He went to the bridge never knowing a day of anything but kindness , gentleness and devotion. We love the photo of him in the tall grass; its a beautiful way to remember him.
Bon week end

Oh my weepy wet whiskers. I wish I would have known sweet Sen-Chan. Love and hugs from all of us.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your memories of beautiful Sen-Chan. If it hadn't been for him, you might not have started this blog. He sure was a sweetie, too bad his life was so brief. He has to have THE best snuggle shot with Tommy ever!!!

What a lovely tribute to your dear Sen-Chan ! Thank you for sharing those sweet memories with us. Purrs
ReplyDeleteSuch a loving tribute to handsome little Sen-Chan. It is so sad that his life was so brief but he knew love and happiness during it.
ReplyDeleteWell, he was a very lucky cat to have known such great love from #1 in his short life. Very sad and we send hugs.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I did not know Sen-Chan, I can clearly see he was very special. He was not only a good looking cat, but he was sweet. You can just tell from the photos how sensitive and loving he was. The pictures of Sen-Chan with his siblings are priceless. I feel sad his life was cut so short. At the same time he was the one who started the poupounette. That makes me feel happy. On that note, I will say, "Sen-Chan, you are unforgettable. See you at the bridge."
ReplyDeleteI have been glad to read of this sweet and beautiful boy's short..too too short life here on earth. Thank goodness he found you though. His sweet spirit and love showed in each picture. It made me cry to know his dear life was so short. But oh, he was loved.
ReplyDeleteSuch sweet memories for such a short time.
ReplyDeleteHappy sen_chan walking about in the grass. Thanks for telling us this sweet story.
ReplyDeleteWhat a touching remembrance. We can see from the photos how sweet he was! It is very sad that he died so young, but we can tell that you gave him a wonderful life.
