Vidock: Neigh everyone! Sweet Tama-Chan said I could have this post (she is getting Thursday instead) so I could tell you about my unbelievably awful experience yesterday. Let me warn you that this is not for the faint of heart. If you are squeamish, you had better stop reading right now!
Now, many of your talk with apprehension of visits to the vet, but I have found out that there is something much, MUCH worse out there. It is called the DENTIST! We horses need to see the dentist quite regularly to make sure that everything is operational and we can eat properly. Uneven and otherwise bad teeth can make it really hard for a horse to eat.
So, anyway, yesterday was my first time. Viking and I were brought up first and put in adjoining boxes where we discussed the situation:
And then this guy came at me and put this medieval torture contraption in my mouth!
Oh, the unbelievable awfulness of it!
Just look at that sadistic smile...
And the fruits of his appalling labours...
And look at the state I was in by the end of it!
Fortunately, #1 cleaned me up and I have lost nothing of my handsomeness!
So, in conclusion, all I can advise to you, My Friends, is that if anyone mentions the"D" word, run like the wind!
WHOA! And I thought we kitties had it bad when we had to have dental procedures! You horses don't even get to be put under! This is one day, Vidock, where I have to say I am glad I'm not you!
ReplyDeleteVidock what was that bid long white thing that was being put in your mouth! Hannah says she knows you are lucky you've got some teeth left - she had nearly all hers stolen a few weeks ago.
ReplyDeleteLuv Hannah and Lucy xx xx
Those tools are called "floats" and they are used to file down teeth.
ReplyDeleteOh, that does sound like a traumatic experience. It might be worth it, though. Sarge, who was no puppy-horse when Alpha Mom got him, can't eat hay anymore. I'm not sure why anyone would want to, but apparently it's quite the thing with you equines. He gets cooked mash and only sort of pretends to eat hay. So, if hay is your thing, then I guess dentists are impawtent. On the other paw (or hoof), Sarge likes his mash.
ReplyDeleteOh man! That looks super nasty.
ReplyDeleteMango Momma
Oh you poor little horsie!! I'm purring for you that your teeth are all better now!
ReplyDeleteLOL poor guy! I remember the vet did teeth one day for my horses and my Mom laughing hysterically at the them. One of my hoses was very high-strung and was given some meds to calm her down. After this she willing walked into our garage away from the bugs, let the vet do her teeth, and then afterwards hung her head down low and shook it slowly back at forth. My Mom said that anyone could have ridden her or done anything to her then.
ReplyDeleteHopefully you don't have to have the dentist come again any time soon!
Good golly Vidock what an ordeal!!! You are right the pictures are not for the feint of heart...all that blood was very unsettling, I wouldn't be able to watch if I were there!!! Hope you are not in any residual pain.
ReplyDeletePoor you, Vidock! I hope you received lots of hugs treats and cuddles for all that horror you went through!
ReplyDeleteOh VIDOCK! Why couldn't they give you something for anxiety at least? You were very very VERY brave. I'm proud of you.
ReplyDeleteVidock, I am glad you survived your dental. It is unfortunately a necessary evil for you horses. I love the picture of you and Viking discussing the situation.
ReplyDeleteCindy

ReplyDeleteOh no Vidock!! Mom just told me I'm going to the dentist on Monday!! What should I do? I can't get out of the pasture. Are you okay?
ReplyDeleteChrome
Oh Vidock, but think of all of the lady horses who will love your smile! I have seen pictures of donkeys getting their teeth floated. It was not the ordeal you went through. You were a very brave horse.

ReplyDeleteOwie. ouchie. That's horrible. We have only just come out from behind the sofa and under the bed. We hope you are recovering well today and getting lods of treats. You are one huge brave hoss.
ReplyDeleteAre they really teeth in all that blood?? How horrible - why did you need to lose some? Poor Vidock. We're all thinking of you. Love from Emily and FamilyXX
ReplyDeleteYou poor thing Vidock. Our mouths hurt just looking at those photos! Did you have cavaties? Hope your mouth feels better soon. Maybe #1 will give you nice soft things to eat instead of hay.
ReplyDeleteYour friends,
Niamh & Ambrose
Goodness gracious! Your procedure looks terrible! We know that mouths are highly vascular, but sheesh! Your #1 takes very good care of you, so what was happening!!!!
ReplyDeleteRoutine maintenance. Some milk teeth needed to come out. If they don't, it can result in painful impacted adult teeth.
