TraumaticThursday

Tom: Today was supposed to be a tough day anyway, with #1 leaving us for almost five long weeks in Canada. But it ended up becoming a traumatic day because of events that occurred yesterday.

Late morning yesterday, Ms. R inadvertently let Bibi out. You all know about his Houbibi adventures but the timing on this one was particularly bad. Within 10 minutes of getting out, he simply vanished. #1 and I went through the fields looking for him, not an easy task with the grass almost chest high (to #1). Nothing. The Beebs was not seen again until close to 4pm when there was a sighting in the garden. On seeing #1, he screamed blue murder and took off. The neighbours, Ms. H and Mr. P, gave #1 a hand and they eventually were able to lock him in the garage. He was under the car and crosser than anyone would have thought possible. When #1 ventured into the garage, he screamed like a banshee. This went on for about three hours...

Eventually, #1 called on Ms. H and Mr. P again, and they managed to grab him. It took #1 and Mr. P to hold him down as he fought like a madcat, hissing, clawing and biting. Thank goodness for really hefty gloves. He peed all over #1. They did manage to get him in the house and confine him to the back room with food, water and a litterbox. #1 and Tommy spent some time with him later in the evening and, after some initial hissing, all was quiet. The Beebs ate some of the food but was UTB.

We are all crossing our paws that he is going to calm down and settle down, and will be back to his usual self soonest. #1 is loath to leave but it would be really hard to cancel, or even postpone the trip. Ms. R obviously feels bad about it all but will soldier all. She has already bonded with me!

May we ask for some serious purring and crossing of paws for our little Beebster? We really don't know what came over him, and want our brother back to his usual happy and snuggly self. The back room is where he grew up as a tiny kitten and we hope it will have a calming effect on him. Needless to say, we haven't been able to do any visiting with all this, but will try to catch up soon.

  1. Poor BiBi and poor #1. I hope he has calmed down by now. Maybe he met a strange cat in the fields which unsettled him. Soon after Eric died, a cat got in over the eight foot fence and he and Flynn were having a face off. Flynn hissed and screamed at us for several hours afterwards which was totally out of character for him.

  2. Oh dear. We are purring that Houbibi calms and does not repeat this escapade. Ms R must feel awful about this, and also we are sure Bibi does (no cat likes to pee over their Human - he must have been in a really bad state to have done this).
And 31 must feel awful as she is about to abandon you lot.
Many, many purrs for you all- we really hope it calms down. And safe travels to #1 of course!

  6. We are sending squillions of purrs for Bibi and although it might take a few days he will soon be his usual cheeky self.
Lucy disappeared one night when she hadn't been here too long and when she returned (in the early hours of the next morning) she lived in a wardrobe for 24 hours but after that she went back to being her normal self.
Luv Hannah and Lucy xx xx

  7. Oh I am truly sending purrs and crossed paws for #! and certainly Bibi and all the rest of Poupounette Central! That was traumatic indeed...the worst thing at the worst time. I hope everyone's hearts are stopped with the racing and excitation. xxoo

  8. Oh, dearie me! Perhaps having a stranger in the house is upsetting to him? I know Gracie gets really hidey whenever strangers are about. She stays in her hidey hole for hours after everyone's left, just to be safe. Gandalf hides, too, but not for as long as Gracie.

Grayson? He loves absolutely everybody! Well, not dogs. Dogs make him hissy, but we seldom get dogs.

Have a brilliant trip!! And do try not to worry too much. Things will settle, especially once they all get hungry and realize that Ms. R is doing the feeding!

  15. Awful, just awful. You will have our prayers with you until your #1 returns.
If there is a bright side, it is that your sitter now understands how easily Bibi can escape and how difficult it is to get him back. Luckily, #1 was there. Could you just imagine if this had happened a day later!
    Poor lady!
Maybe our Beebs was just so stressed that he needed to vent that stress. Please kiss him and hug him for us.

  16. He was probably just so stressed out. Poor thing, we are sure he will be back to normal soon.

  17. A very small, but similar incident happened with me - my human caught me immediately, but I freaked out and totally "went feral" for a few hours. My human had to confine me and she happened to have some Spirit Essences onhand and used them liberally, rubbing them on her hands and then rubbing her hands on me. It took me a few hours to calm down and get back to normal. So hopefully Bibi will be back to normal in a few days (since his incident lasted pretty much a whole day). I am purring lots for him!

  18. Oh my! that was horrible. We read about the Houbibi thing on Facebook, fortunately being in a timezone to see that he had been found, but really to not calm down. I wonder what got into him? I hope he settles soon so that #1 can take her trip and relax.

  22. What a scary way for #1 to start her trip and the sitter to start her stay. We will keep our paws crossed that the Beebs calms down and behaves himself.

  23. Oh no! We are purring that Bibi will be okay.

  24. Oh I am so sorry that the Beebs had this happen. He must have been so scared! Two of our cats did have similiar experiences and it took a few hours before they were calmed again. I trust he is find by now. You all are in my prayers for good and peace-filled days with #1 not at home. Blessings.
    Sending love to you,
