UNITY IN DIVERSITY - A Shout for CHILE!

Tom: Being the sportiest guy around, I get to do this post which is part of MAXMOM's "Unity in Diversity" project. Today the CHILEAN soccer team play their first game of this World Cup, and we want to let you know a little bit about them.

For a start, this is Chile's first appearance in the World Cup in 12 years, and the team is young and very energetic. Their qualifying run included a win over awesome Argentina and a total of 32 goals! The team is known as "LA ROJA" and is famous for its attacking skills although it would seem the defensive side can be a little wobbly at times.

The team is dealing with some last-minute tension, before its first match against Honduras today, because it is still uncertain whether its star striker, Humberto Suazo will be fit to play. Funnily enough, Honduras also has a star player called Suazo who is injured!

Why are we rooting for Chile today? We have a close family connection there as #1's brother & Co. live there. #1 has been to visit and says it is a most wonderful country, with warm and kind people, wonderful wine, and great cheese and fruit and vegetables. She says the Valparaiso market was one of the most amazing she had ever seen, both in terms of pricing and variety!

So, please join us today in giving a big

SHOUT FOR CHILE!
PURR FOR CHILE!
WOOF FOR CHILE!

-- STOP PRESS -- Chile won its game today 1-0! This is their first victory in a World Cup match in 48 years!

  1. Can we 'MEOW' for Chile? If so, I'm REALLY good at meowing, so I can do lots of meowing for Chile. Mom said she'd love to see more pictures of Chile if you have some..we hear it is a great place and we also know some people from there. Do they like cats there? We hope!! Purrs, Lautrec and Tiny

  7. We are not really sure who to meow for as Finland are not playing and any of us could do a better job than the English goalkeeper - and the Britcats here don't care. Maybe we cheer for Germany as Äiti has some German blood. But maybe we just cheer at halftime because then we might get fed!!!!

  17. Congrats to Chile on their win - we have also heard that the Chileans are very nice people. Nice post about them.

We saw on the news all the flooding in France - we hope it is not affecting you at all. It was scary watching the water push and toss the big cars all around. Stay safe.
